Well, it’s a given that many people’s forum etiquette is well….lacking. That’s a mild word, but it’s adequate for now. If you are attached to your name or represent your company, you will always have your forum past to haunt you. Like it or not, if you’re an annoying little bastard people are going to remember it. And you may or may not lose out on money because of it.

While this mostly pertains to business and industry forums, occassionally you can get hit by being a dumbass on other boards as well. You have to write stuff out so, oh I don’t know - read what your wrote before posting?
