Trial Period

Not entirely convinced you need adult copywriting services? Want to try me out but don’t want to order a whole service package. No problem! Feel free to test me out on a smaller project - I’m sure you’ll be back once you see the results. Trial projects must be paid upfront.

Promotions

Yes, I will be running promotions at some point in time. I don’t see that happening in the near future, however. I prefer to keep my client base small so I can provide the highest quality of service. It’s hard to do that if I overbook myself. I almost wish writers got the summer slowdown…

Ghostwriting Extended

I wanted to explain what I consider ghostwriting just a little bit farther. My definition varies from the traditional sense. There are a few things that I require my byline to be on - if you want to put your own name, or no name at all, it becomes ghostwriting.

Magazine articles, columns, ebooks, and reviews are the only types of content that I insist on having my byline on. For ebooks, I would also request a link to my site (although there’s no obligation for that). So if you want to stick your own name on there - be my guest. But you need to tell me that’s what you have in mind first so I can charge accordingly.

The next definition is for any other type of work that I do. If you don’t want it in my portfolio, I need to know beforehand. If I can’t take credit for it, that means that I don’t get to use it to help me get work. Obviously, that’s a problem.

I’m not going to use your real name or get specific on everything that I did. There will be a link to the site, a link to a sample of the work that I did (if applicable), and a general overview of the services I performed. That’s it. If you still don’t want your project placed in my portfolio, that’s fine. I will either need to charge ghostwriting fees, or have your permission to be able to use the material as samples on an individual basis.

Individual basis would be if someone needed a specific type of content, and your project was the only example that I have. They would contact me for a sample, and I would send the project material as a sample in that fashion. However, it would not be listed on my website anywhere. If you allow samples on an individual basis I do not charge any additional fees.

Morals and High Ground

I don’t see myself as being on a moral highground. I’m pretty down to earth. However, I might as well say this outright - I’m not going to write something that’s completely degrading for no reason. You want to justify it in a BDSM sense, that’s great. I understand and appreciate that subculture.

I don’t get pissed at mere words, I don’t exactly have the cleanest mouth. But at the same time there’s more to sex marketing then seeing how many times you can use the words “b1tch, cun+, s1ut, wh0re, etc (with symbols so I don’t get search engine hits on those). I love tongue in cheek stuff, I love stuff with attitude.

I’m not going to just use those phrases for no reason though. I’m not trying to preach, I’m not on some morale highground. That kind of thing just goes under projects I can’t really get into. I have no problem with the occassional usage but the English language is great. It gives us a lot more adjectives than that - let me show you.

Please, please don’t think I’m trying to be patronizing. I’m really not. I’m just not going to be a good match for you if that’s what works for your sites, though. I just want to be completely honest and upfront about it. If I’m not going to be able to put myself completely into the project, I’m not going to be able to deliver results that are quality. The last thing I want to do is give you the short end of the stick.

Hopefully this gives you some more insight into how I work.

What types of payment options can I use?

As previously mentioned, I do require a 25% upfront deposit from clients who I either have not yet worked with or who have not been referred by my personal contacts. If you are a member of the GFY boards and have more than 5,000 posts, I’ll go ahead and forget about the deposit. I hate to have to insist on deposits, but I’ve gotten screwed far too much. Sorry!

I prefer payment via electronic payment methods: I currently have Paypal and Epassporte set up. Checks and money orders work as well. If you are paying your deposit via check, I will need to receive the check prior to beginning work.

If you would like to use a different payment method, please let me know. As long as I can set up an account at no signficiant cost (and there isn’t a minimum payout) I will accomodate your needs.

What is the normal creative process for an adult copywriting project?

Wondering how I work? Here’s a quick outline on how I approach the typical site project:

  1. You contact me on your adult copywriting needs.
  2. I take a look at your project and site. Try to be as specfic as possible with what you need - number of pages, estimated page length, types of content, etc. This helps me in giving you the most accurate quote.
  3. If needed, I will ask for project clarifications. Otherwise I will send you the project quote. This quote includes a breakdown on pricing (if you have several types of content needs) as well as an estimated time of completion.
  4. You can accept or deny this quote. I am open to working within a set budget, just ask!
  5. Once you accept the quote, I appreciate any additional information you would like to provide. Target market, overall tone, messages, calls to action, personal requests, etc all help to develop the site text to your specfic personality and voice.
  6. I can send the pages to you as I complete them or in one package.
  7. You can suggest any alterations or improvements as far as the text goes. I am happy to edit the text until it matches your exact vision.
  8. Enjoy your new original website text!

How long is a page?

For projects which are quoted by a per page price, my definition of a page is anywhere from 200-600 words. For a more specific answer - I don’t really have one. A page is long enough to get your point across and short enough that your visitors don’t get bored.

Why is there such a large price range for some projects?

All prices listed on the site are for guideline purposes only. I put them up to give you an idea of what kind of cash I’m looking for. I really hate going to a site and having to hunt around or ask how much things are going to cost - I always feel bad if they’re out of my price range.

The price scale is mainly based around how much research and prep time goes into the text. If it’s something simple, short, and sweet you’re going to be looking at the lower end of the scale. If it’s something long and research heavy, I’m going to need to charge for that.

So you know up front my expected compensation range. I normally work in terms of how long a project will take per hour - with an asking rate of approximately $25/hour. If you think you have a really engaging project without a huge budget, you can always ask to negotiate. If it’s something really fun and original I’ll see what I can do for you!

This place, that place, and some other place have prices much cheaper than you. What makes you so special?

I’ll be straight up with you - what I charge is a fraction of the cost of many copywriters. They just can’t stomach copywriting for the adult industry. I bask in it.

I’m not going to profess to be the cheapest out there. There’s plenty of people in countries with low costs of living that can afford to be very budget friendly. All the more power to them, I say. If they meet your needs, that’s even better. I wish you the best of luck and welcome you to use any resources on this site.

However, this is what you get if you go with me. While I might say we or us occasionally in site descriptions, Sultry Services is a one woman operation. I don’t outsource my jobs, and I make sure not to overbook myself. This way I can give all my clients one on one time in order to help develop your sites to the fullest.

I’m also free with advice, tips, rambling - it may or may not be useful, but it’s better than not talking at all! I’m a native English speaker as well. Although half of this site’s template seems to be in another language, I really am based in the United States.

I also don’t mind revising the work I send - sometime it can be hard to capture your vision in one go around. I have no problem with working on the text until it matches what you had in your head. I normally don’t charge for revision work as long as it is reasonable.

Can I ask you about copywriting even if I can’t use your services at this time?

Sure, I love to help out where I can. Please keep in mind though, if you aren’t a client, I cannot give you priority so there might be some delays in between responses.

I will not edit/proofread/write etc for free, so please don’t ask me to just touch up your site. If you really think it’s not any big deal, then you would probably learn more doing it yourself.

What type of time frame am I looking at for completion?

That really depends on the project. If it’s something small, I can normally fit it in very quickly. If it’s a large project (such as an entire site or a large number of keyword articles) I will need to schedule a specific block of time to focus on it. Depending on work volume, it may be up to a work before I am able to begin writing your project. I will still be able to begin preliminary brainstorming and work on the project, however.

Why does the website keep changing?

I don’t get along with coding - never have, never will. I use Wordpress as a base for the site and the CMS and just try to get nice themes. When I alter them to meet my needs sometimes things go wrong. Horribly wrong. This is DIY design gone wrong. Happily, I love my current theme. So I think the constant site changes are done!

Why don’t you write $2 SEO articles like (insert company name here)?

Quality, not quantity. If you’re just looking for someone to shove keywords into an article that probably has nothing to do with your subject - go for it. I’m not really into that kind of thing. If you want me to do articles for directory submission or for pure SEO purposes, that’s fine. There’s no rule saying that even keyword articles shouldn’t be engaging to the reader, though.

Where’s the naked pics?

You all see more than enough naked women in your line of work. I don’t think you need to see another one.

What if I don’t like the price of a quote after I’ve discussed my project with you?

Well, I’m always open for negotiations. You can also alter the scope of the project to be less extensive if price is a big issue. I don’t get upset at being told no, so if you aren’t thrilled, just turn it down. I’m not a thin skinned type of person - you really can’t be in the publishing industry, let alone the adult!

Why don’t you do stories?

It’s not that I don’t do stories, it’s that I don’t focus on (and thusly I don’t normally provide) story content. There are plenty of great sites out there that only do story content - so they’re most likely able to provide you with better story service than I could.

That said, I’m not going to turn down an intriguing story project. So by all means, ask - I can’t say yes or no until I’ve heard about what you’d like.

Do you accept service or traffic trades?

As mentioned previously, I do not accept forms of alternative compensation. Should this change, I will let you know on the front page.

Why are you even doing this?

Why not? Adult, sex, porn sites - whatever you want to call them, the majority of them use text in one form or another. Why not let me take care of that while you deal with the rest of the site?

Guide to Content Licenses and Rights

First North American Electronic Rights with XX month/year exclusive - For a specified period, you are the only person with the right to publish the content on your site. After that the rights revert back to me and I may republish the article in any form I choose.
If you use the content for print, you will need to purchase First North American Serial Rights.

All Rights: The content is all yours - whatever you want to do with it is your business (I do have restrictions on certain content types, however).

I appreciate any and all links and referrals. I will have some spiffy banners and buttons made up shortly. In the meantime, you can use this little logo and link to http://www.adultcopywriting.com.

What is copywriting

Copywriting doesn’t refer to copying writing - it is a term that encompasses any and all marketing and sales copy. So your paysite tours, gallery descriptions, catalog copy, etc etc are all considered a form of copywriting.

Hours of Business

Mornings - what are those? I can’t say I’ve woken up before noon in a long long time. I plan to keep it that way. My hours of business are 12pm - 3 am EST Mon - Fri. While I do often work through the weekends, please don’t expect it (that time is much better spent reading forums and breaking Wordpress templates…sigh).

You Said No?

I wish there was an unlimited number of hours in a day. That would allow me to take on every client who asks. However, I do not have that luxury. If I turn down your project, please do not be offended. It is nothing personal, and I will always be open to future projects. There are a couple of reasons why I will turn down project requests before the quoting process:

  • I can’t get a ‘feel’ for the project. Some projects just don’t flip my creative switch. The last thing I want to do is waste your time if I cannot deliver work that is on par with my quality standards.
  • Time and pricing don’t match up. I support myself on my writing and I schedule my projects accordingly. If a project price is offered which does not come close to either my normal hourly rate of $25/hour or .10 cent a word minimum, then I will respectfully refuse. I will do my best to get you in contact with someone that can take the project on.
  • I’m not going to touch anything dealing with bestiality, kiddie porn, or anything illegal like that. Keep that the hell away from my site.
  • I’m overbooked or too close to it to fit your project in. When it rains, it pours - I’m a one woman operation here and I try to keep my project list low to ensure plenty of one on one time with my clients. If you have a smaller project it is normally not a problem to get you scheduled in, but if you have some extensive work I am currently quoting a lead time of approximately one week to begin work.

Outsource Companies/Designers/Etc

Want to give your client a complete package, including the finishing touch of adult copywriting? If you don’t have any writers on staff or english isn’t your first language, I will be happy to help you out with your writing needs. Just let me know what you need and what your client’s budget is.

Why do you ask for different rights?

There’s one big reason I offer only first electronic rights on particular pieces. If I’m going to put hours and hours of research and material for a particular subject, I would like to be able to make as much money from that work as possible. One way for a writer to do this is to resell previous writing.

So for magazine style articles, columns, and non ghostwritten ebooks I ask for the rights to revert back to myself after six months - year. This gives you plenty of time to benefit fully from the benefits of the content and also stops you from being penalized for duplicate content on the search engines.

However, the rights reverting back to me simply means that I can then resell the article or include it in a package. It does not mean that you have to take the article down or anything of the sort. You paid for first rights - that means the article is around, and was around first, on your site.

What is lead time?

This is the estimated amount of time before I can start on your project. This is largely dependent on my current volume of work.

Blacklisted

I’m not here to play board warrior or pick sides in the latest drama. I’m here to do business and to help your business grow. I’ll say this straight up - I don’t give a shit about your board persona. If you act like an asshat on the boards, don’t be surprised if I don’t want anything to do with your business. Life is too short to be figuring out whether you’re really an ass or if you just like being a tool on the boards. I’m not a complete bitch so I’ll provide you with a list of other services that may be able to help you out.
